Recovery

Recover. Rebuild. Move Forward.

Recovery begins as soon as an emergency has passed. Whether you’re cleaning up after a storm, reporting damage, filing an insurance claim, or applying for disaster assistance, Sussex County Emergency Management is committed to connecting residents, businesses, and communities with the resources they need to recover safely and efficiently.

Recovery is often a partnership between local, state, federal, nonprofit, and private organizations working together to restore homes, infrastructure, and essential services.

Recovery Starts Here

  • Stay Safe – Return home only when officials say it is safe to do so and remain aware of ongoing hazards.
  • Document Damage – Take photos and videos of damaged property before beginning cleanup or making temporary repairs.
  • Contact Your Insurance Company – Report damage as soon as possible and keep records of all communications and receipts.
  • Seek Assistance – If state or federal disaster assistance becomes available, follow official guidance to determine your eligibility.
